Who are we?
In 1999 we developed a company that provides adaptive and assistive products for the elderly. This company is called Assisted Living Store, Inc. It is located at http://www.assistedlivingstore.com.
After we developed Assisted Living Store, Inc. we found that warming products were a popular product choice for the elderly and we decided to expand our selection of warming products through a new website (ElectricBlanket.NET) that has a broader market focus in this product area.

It’s that time of year again. The cold wind will soon be blowing the leaves off of the trees and it will begin to snow. In Minnesota the word “snow” is a four letter word that many people do not want to think about. Last year (2010-2011) we had an extremely cold winter here in Minnesota. We had a record snowfall and it felt like the cold weather would never come to an end. I (Tom) grew up in Northern Minnesota and I have always made it through the winters feeling OK when the snow finally melted. This last winter must have been the straw that broke my back. Now that I turned 40 this year I have dreams of spending my winters in a warmer climate. Hopefully someday my wife and I can move to a warmer climate in the winter.
Every August the portion of our company that sells electric blankets gets a marketing boost by Jack Frost. When he starts to blow the cold air across the United States our sales start increasing from the cold spots. My wife and I watch the national weather and we can usually predict where in the country the first onslaught of orders will come from. The mountain states of Northern California start buying electric blankets in mid-August. The higher elevations across the country are the first indicator that the cool breeze is coming. We first started to use electric blankets when we began selling them online. We were one of the first companies to sell electric bedding online and for awhile we controlled the niche. Since then the amount of online competition has increased immensely mostly by the big box stores.
We usually take our electric blankets and/or heated mattress pads out of the closet in October. The southern part of Minnesota does not get as cold as soon as the northern portion where I grew up so at least the warm weather lasts a little longer.
If you are looking for a good holiday gift for someone an electric blanket or heated mattress pad might be worth looking at. It is a gift that provides long lasting comfort and warmth to the recipient.

Kim has worked in the field of Gerontology (aging studies) for more than 13 years either through Assisted Living Store, Inc. as its President and founder, the USDA Extension Service or through Mankato State University, Mankato, Minnesota.
Thomas L. Carlson, Vice-President, B.A. Degree Criminal Justice - Grew-up in Duluth, Minnesota Brrrr... Tom worked for over 11 years as a Senior Special Agent (federal law enforcement officer) and left his job to focus his enjoyment on the business he and his wife (Kim) have built.
